The church vacation club program included a day at the sunny Reiss beach.

A day at the beach and a forest challenge were among the activities offered to more than 60 children who attended a parish holiday club during the last week of the school holidays.

The theme for the club, led by Pulteneytown and Thrumster Church in Wick, was the Wonder Zone. Throughout the five mornings, young people discovered different marvels such as the animal kingdom, robots and the scale and beauty of the universe.

Creative and sporting activities were offered, with a large team of volunteers to please everyone.

Minister Rev Andrew Barrie said: “After two years of not being able to run the Holiday Club due to Covid, we were really happy to be back this year. It was nice to see new faces and to welcome familiar faces back to the Wonder Zone.

“It really is a team effort to organize an event of this magnitude and we are grateful to all the volunteers who gave their time and effort so that the children could hear about the wonderful world that God has created. .”

The children also enjoyed two outings, one to Reiss Beach and the other to Dunnet Forest, where they had the choice of a teddy bear picnic or a Fantasy Forest Challenge.

The week ended with a celebratory service on Sunday evening where family members and friends were able to view completed filmmaking challenges, dance performances and photos of the week’s activities.

Mr Barrie added: “The church is not done exploring the Wonder Zone, and ‘Lightly Salted’ – a monthly gathering for families to get creative, enjoy a meal, explore and celebrating faith together – begins Saturday, September 3. more information soon on our website or the church’s Facebook page.”
