UPDATE 07/17/2022: @ 4:45 p.m.: The search has been suspended due to inclement weather in the area. Once the time has passed, the search will resume.
The original 911 calls for the incident sent him as 3 missing children. It has now been confirmed that there are only two missing women. A 14-year-old, who was rescued by a paddle board, and the 11-year-old girl still missing.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident with assistance from its Criminal Investigations Division and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
Fire and rescue personnel from St. Mary’s, Calvert and Charles County are operating on the scene with the United States Coast Guard and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
07/17/2022: On Sunday, July 17, 2022, at approximately 2:05 p.m., firefighters and rescuers were dispatched to Camp Merryelande located at 15914 Camp Merryelande Road in Piney Point, for the three children who were missing in the water.
The 911 caller reported that three children were washed away and missing in the water.
While responding to the scene, dispatchers advised that a 911 caller would meet with firefighters to help translate into Spanish and English.
A second 911 caller reported that a 14-year-old woman was rescued by paddle before first responders arrived. The second missing child is a 10 year old hispanic girl with short hair and white shirt.
The Maryland State Police Trooper 7 helicopter, along with Department of Natural Resources, U.S. Coast Guard, and fire and rescue personnel respond to assist.
Firefighters and police attempt to close the beach and pull over 100 subjects out of the water. Please avoid the area.
