More than 200 children, parents and grandparents visited the Salvation Army campus at Spring Street and Long Beach Boulevard on Saturday, March 26, for the first Long Beach Red Shield Day.

The party was designed to show off the new Donald & Priscilla Hunt Red Shield Community Center. Completed last year, the campus features a full-size gymnasium and an all-weather grass sports field surrounded by a walking track. The center also has a refectory and a center with classrooms, a chapel that can be transformed into a performance or meeting room and an industrial-size kitchen.

Saturday activities included carnival games, a barbecue hosted by the Long Beach Police Department, tours of the facility, and a “grudge” basketball game between a member of the Long Beach Police Department and the departments. of fire.

Families also had the chance to enroll children from kindergarten to grade 8 for after-school programs and day camps. For more information, call (562) 426-7637.
