LEWISTON – Robert J. Laplante “Bob”, 78, of Lewiston, died Sunday, March 20, 2022 after a courageous battle with metastatic lung cancer. The family was able to say goodbye during their week-long stay at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Bob was born in Lewiston on April 14, 1943 to Stanley and Jeanne (Perrier) Laplante. Bob and Joline were married on June 20, 1964 and together they raised their two children, Rick and Lisa. They had a strong and happy marriage for nearly 58 years and had a bond that could only be severed by death. He will live on in the hearts of his wife and family.

In January 1966 Bob joined the Lewiston Fire Department which began his first career, proudly serving over 28 years. During this time, he attended many national fire academies and took courses to further his education. He retired in 1994 as Deputy Fire Chief.

In 1997 he began his second career as a property manager for the University of Southern Maine, a job he enjoyed very much and where he worked until his retirement in 2014 at the age of 70. . He also held numerous part-time jobs throughout his working life. Bob was a hardworking and conscientious person and his family was very proud of him and all of his accomplishments.

Bob and Joline, throughout their married life, enjoyed camping and traveling along the East Coast, vacationing in Florida, Myrtle Beach, the Jersey Shore, Connecticut, Wells Beach and Old Orchard Beach and made frequent trips to Quebec Canada. Bob would like to talk about the sites, people and friends he met along the way.

He occupied himself during his retirement remodeling their house of which he was very proud. He also enjoyed painting by numbers and made beautiful paintings which Joline proudly displayed in their home. Bob never liked being the center of attention, but he enjoyed socializing and going to get-togethers with his family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Joline; his son, Richard Laplante and his wife Brenda, his daughter, Lisa Galarneau and her husband Ron; his three grandchildren of whom he was very proud, Matthew Laplante, Danielle Laplante and her spouse Eric Meader, and Troy Galarneau; his sisters Constance Marley and Lorraine Klibensky, his brother-in-law Maurice Marquis, his sisters-in-law Laurette Gagné and Bernie Marquis; several nieces and nephews; step-grandchildren Brandon Galarneau and his partner Sarah and their children Grace and Alex; Candra Cardinal and her husband Daniel and their daughters Ava and Amelia; and her very special little dog Brady.
