Southern Californians have sought relief during days of record-breaking triple-digit temperature warnings and excessive heat in early September.

The extreme heat has led to calls for energy conservation, crowded beaches and heightened concerns about rapidly spreading wildfires. Excessive heat warnings remain in effect for part of the region through most of Wednesday.
