Darlene Lorraine (Jensen) Reed, 86, died Saturday, September 10 at St. Mary’s campus in Rochester, MN. A funeral service will be held at Bridge Community Church in Albert, Lea, MN on Saturday, September 17 at 10 a.m., with visitation Friday, September 16 from 4-6 p.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home as well as one hour before the service. Pastor Mark Miller will officiate.
Darlene was born at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minnesota on November 9, 1935. Her parents were Norman and Regina (Holtz) Jensen. Darlene married Jan T. Reed on November 11, 1956 at First Presbyterian Church. Together they had five children: Vicki, Annette, Renae, Kevin and Kyle.
She has worked in many places and vocations. She started working at Ben Franklin, becoming a department head. Thereafter, she worked at JC Penny’s for 8½ years. She then became the owner and operator of Star Furniture in 1975 in Albert Lea, MN, running it for 6 years. After a stint at Kwik Trip, she took a home health course and worked for Freeborn County Home Health for 15 years, before retiring in 1998. As well as working, she was also an active member of the Bridge Community Church, as the leader of the Awana club. for 25 years, working at Fair Booth Church for 5 years, and also served on the social and fellowship committee. In 1967, Darlene also became a Gril Scout Leader. She was deeply involved in politics and became a voter registration officer. In her spare time, she enjoyed many activities, such as boating, crafts, jewelry making, playing cards and Bunco, listening to blue grass music, going to Florida and the beach and swimming. photography. Her main hobby was golf, which she often referred to as “home away from home”.

Darlene is survived by her children Vicki (Bill) Williams, Annette (David) Hanson, Renae (Dale) Himrich, Kevin (Brenda) Reed and Kyle (Jodie) Reed. Grandchildren Kerri (Lee) Kuiters, Kim Gaskill, Wendi (Christopher) Smith, Tami Gaskill, Scott (Jenna) Gaskill, Gina (Jay) Schneider, Stephanie Williams, Stacie (Ryne) Christner, Cole Vehrenkamp and significant other Kassandra Wistehuff, Weston (Miranda) Williams, Kayla (Ryan) Langhans, Alysa (David) Miller, Tabitha (Dustin) Jepson, Ethan Reed, Jake Reed, Madison Reed, Austin Himrich and Noelle Himrich. With 21 great-grandchildren.
Darlene is predeceased by her husband Jan, her parents Norman and Regina (Holtz) Jensen, her infant brothers Robert and Richard, and her sister June Hanson.
